What to Expect During Your Lactation Consultation
Every family and feeding journey is different. Lactation support should feel supportive, informative, and tailored — not overwhelming.

During your consultation, we’ll focus on understanding your goals, addressing concerns, and creating a clear, realistic plan that fits your baby and your family.
Before Your Visit
Before your appointment, you’ll receive a brief intake form with consents to help me understand your concerns, goals, and feeding history. This allows us to make the most of our time together.
Depending on the type of visit, you may be asked to:
-
Have your baby available for feeding
-
Bring any pumping equipment or bottles you are currently using
-
Jot down questions or concerns you’d like to address
There’s no need to prepare perfectly — this visit is meant to meet you where you are.
During Your Visit
Each consultation is individualized based on your needs and goals. Time is spent listening, assessing, and providing hands-on or guided support in a calm, supportive environment.
Your visit may include:
-
Review of feeding goals and concerns
-
Observation and assessment of feeding
-
Support for latch, comfort, milk supply, or weight concerns
-
Pumping or bottle-feeding guidance, if applicable
-
Education and practical strategies tailored to your situation
Virtual visits are structured similarly, with guidance adapted for a telehealth setting.
After Your Visit
Following your consultation, you’ll leave with clear next steps and a plan designed to support you beyond the visit.
This may include:
-
A written care plan or summary
-
Personalized recommendations
-
Follow-up options if additional support is needed
My goal is for you to leave feeling informed, supported, and confident moving forward.
Ongoing Support
Feeding needs can change, and continued support is sometimes helpful. Follow-up visits are available for families who would benefit from additional guidance, plan adjustments, or ongoing reassurance.
